As the UK Data Archive Centre (DAC) for marine species and habitats data, DASSH is involved a variety of partnerships and projects with other organisations that aim to improve data standardisation and availability in the UK and Europe, as well as contributing UK marine biodiversity data to repositories on a global scale.
MARCO-BOLO
The Marco-Bolo project is a collaborative initiative aimed at advancing the discovery and accessibility of marine biodiversity data to support environmental decision-making, scientific research, and conservation efforts. It seeks to bridge gaps in data availability and standardization across Europe by creating a network of data providers and repositories. DASSH plays a pivotal role as key partners, contributing expertise in marine biodiversity data management, curation, and dissemination. Their efforts ensure high-quality data is integrated into the project, promoting interoperability and supporting sustainable marine resource management.
DASSH plays a crucial role in EMODnet (European Marine Observation and Data Network) by serving as a trusted data provider and repository for marine biodiversity information. DASSH contributes to EMODnet's mission of improving access to high-quality, standardized marine data by curating, archiving, and sharing seabed species and habitat data. Its efforts enhance the availability and interoperability of biodiversity data across europe, supporting marine research, policy-making, and sustainable resource management initiatives. The collaboration ensures robust data flow from the UK to European data aggregation systems, fostering informed decision-making in marine conservation and management.
The Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) BioFlow initiative aims to integrate marine biological data into advanced digital models of the ocean, enhancing our understanding of marine ecosystems and their responses to environmental changes. DASSH plays a key role in this effort by providing expertise in marine biodiversity data management and standardization. As the UK's node for the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS), DASSH contributes UK marine biodiversity data to global and European repositories, directly supporting the project's objectives.
