Any personal information collected by the DASSH Web site will not be published or passed on to third parties without prior consent, or where there is a legal obligation to do so.
The DASSH Web server also automatically collects information including IP address, browser type, operating system, access times etc. Such information is only used for administrative purposes and to monitor traffic to the site.
Some sections of the DASSH site utilise cookies. Cookies are small files which are stored on the users hard drive to identify the user and are used customise the site to your specifications. Cookies can be disabled but doing so may limit the functionality of some areas of the site, for example the SEABED mapping tool.
Registering with the DASSH Web site.
In order to view and download data, images or video you must first register with the Data Archive for Seabed Species and Habitats. This is so that we know:
- you have accepted to be bound by the DASSH Terms and Conditions of use, and
- to help DASSH analyze site traffic and downloads for statistical purposes.
Any personal data we collect will be dealt with in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Data providers to the DASSH project will be able to view statistics on the dates their data, images and video were downloaded and the organization (or location e.g. Bristol, if an individual) that downloaded them. They will not be able to view any other information about registered users.
